Have you started making your vacation plans yet? It’s never too early to start planning for the summer. Many cabin owners like to rent out their properties for weekend getaways in the summer.
Here are a 8 tips to ensure you are a great guest at their property.
Noise - be aware that not everyone in the area is on vacation. There might be people who work from home and need a bit more quiet during the day.
Garbage - please keep the forest clean. If you take it in, take it out.
Sewage - many of the cabins in the area are on septic systems. They are designed for daily use of up to 2 people per bedroom. If you have extra people in the cabin that exceed this limit, flush only solids. This will prevent the system from filling with water and possible overflow.
Internet service - Will you be able to get a signal? Verizon is a huge carrier in the northern portion of Arizona. But how strong the signal is, depends on how close you are to a tower. Keep in mind where you will be - how remote, how many trees.
Fires - be aware that just because the property has a fire pit, doesn’t mean they are allowed. City, County and the Forestry service all have different fire restrictions. Check them out before you start the bonfire. If you do have a fire, make sure it’s 100% out before you walk away. You wouldn’t want to be responsible for a forest fire.
Dirt roads - When it’s dry, dirt / gravel roads are very dusty. Be safe and friendly by keeping your speed to 20 mph or less. The locals will thank you.
Supplies - in remote areas supplies are limited. Stock up before you head to the cabin for everything you need including weather alert services, batteries, water and gas.
Safety - follow all OHV, fishing, and watercraft rules. Accidents happen, but if they can be prevented you’ll enjoy your trip more. Medivac flights cost in the thousands. Driving in unfamiliar areas can lead to accidents or loss of life. Drivers must be 16 or older and have a license, even off road.
